New Year’s Resolutions Every Professional Can Make and Keep

December 16, 2016

How can you grow professionally this year?

With the New Year quickly approaching, many of us are reflecting on the past year and what we accomplished, and looking to the coming year and what we wish to achieve. Whether your goal for 2017 is to find a job, get that big raise or transfer to another department, New Year’s resolutions are the perfect way to achieve success in your career. If you are looking to better yourself in your chosen profession this year, here are some simple, achievable ideas that can take you to the next level.

  • Learn a new skill.

Acquiring new skills in your work industry is critical to your career success. Mastering a new skill increases your self-confidence in the workplace, beefs up your resume and opens up new opportunities. Pick a skill that interests you and will be fun to learn. Are you envious of your coworker’s fluency in Excel? Ask them to teach you! This not only is an opportunity for learning, but also a chance to strengthen your co-worker relationships. Ask yourself what skill you are really interested in acquiring and make 2017 the year to master it.

  • Network outside of the office.

Many people believe that networking is only for those of us who are looking for a new job; however, that is simply not true. Networking is an opportunity every professional should take advantage of for personal and professional reasons. It allows you to constantly develop yourself as a professional in your industry and learn new things. Attending networking events allows you to communicate with others in your field and build relationships that you both can benefit from. This year, mark your calendars with local networking events and take the time to build and grow your professional network. What have you got to lose?
  • Bring your lunch.

When it comes to our hectic workday schedule, lunch can sometimes be pushed aside and forgotten…until hunger takes over and being productive at work comes to ahalt! When noon strikes, we quickly run out of the office to grab a bite to eat and often our choices are high in price and calories. This year, make bringing your lunch from home a priority. In doing so, you will not only save money but will also eat healthier. Plus, it helps to make your busy workday a little bit more productive!

  • Get organized.

It is time to cut the clutter! A cluttered workspace creates chaos, confusion and stress. Take the time to organize the junk drawer in your desk. Finally, file those countless papers piled high in the corner of your office. An organized desk and office will allow you to be more productive and less stressed this coming year. Plus, a neat and tidy office is more welcoming and professional. A lot of us spend a majority of our day behind our desks; why not make that time more comfortable and enjoyable?

Listed here are simply a few of the countless ways we can better ourselves this coming work year. No matter what goal you choose to accomplish in the office in 2017, remember to stick with it. All of us at Cork Tree Creative wish you a happy and healthy New Year. Cheers to a wonderful 2017!
